Stripped To The Bone: Existerie

Never have expectations about what you want to find

Because it's very likely you'll find a lot of stripped buildings. For example, when we went on an exploration in March 2024, we mapped out two locations that were close to each other in Belgium: a children's hospital and a wool factory, just five minutes apart. Both had been stripped of their interiors, leaving only the structure of the buildings. Only a few pieces of furniture remained, which may or may not have been left behind originally.

A blessing in disguise

Walking through these two buildings was more than just an exploration—it was an acknowledgment of existence. Pure silence enveloped us, broken only by the creaking of old beams and sound of our own footsteps. These spaces, though empty, were not lifeless.

Like the person who gifted us the word existerie, these places carried a quiet philosophy—simply being, existing in their stripped-down state.

On a crumbling wall, a yin-yang affirmation was sprayed, a reminder that balance persists even in decay. The good will even out the bad, or andersom. A message left behind, not for anyone in particular, yet somehow meant for us at that moment.
